Andreas Albrecht, born 1964, is a former trained dancer, now active as an author and artist. His professional dance instructors included his most admired teachers Lia and Mihaly Nagy of the Dance School Stuttgart, the late Armgard von Bardeleben, former dancer and director at the Martha Graham Institute, N.Y. Also the famed pantomime Steven Colluci, N.Y. master-student of Marcel Marceau and the late Barry Weiss, who had choreographed for Mikhail Baryshnikov at the “1984 I love New York” campaign.
His literary idols are widespread ranging from the Russian and British 19th century classics to the French existentialists, incl. Dostojewski, de Quincey and Sarte, Camus, etc. As an author, Albrecht has published his own books available on Amazon.de His love and passion for the fine arts is currently deeply rooted in the works of the Arte Povera and the Group Zero. He is a convinced admirer of Joseph Beuys. Living now in Duesseldorf, it is no surprise he has been lucky to meet and learn from many of Beuys´ companions, e.g. Don Lenzen, with whom Beuys built the dugout canoe for his famous Rhine-crossing in 1973. Albrecht´s main motif he calls ART EX LIBRIS as many of his works derive directly from literary quotations, incl. biblical texts. His works, albeit seldom settling for one art style, may come with a certain static composition as if trying to freeze a very moment. They even appear on first sight as if construed. Yet many of his works come to life the moment light is shed on them and shadows start moving and bringing to life what otherwise is perceived either to be iconic or of pictogrammical evidence. Often, Albrecht combines artwork with poetry being part of the work.
